Classification of Special Mortars

In recent years, the mortar industry has been very prosperous. There are many types: dry powder mortar, wet mixed mortar, gypsum mortar, etc. But have you heard of special mortar? Do you know what types of special mortars are available? Today I will introduce you to the classification of special mortars.

First of all, let me introduce you to what is special mortar. Special mortar is a kind of mortar which is mainly suitable for special requirements such as waterproof, radiation resistance, corrosion resistance, sound absorption, thermal insulation, bonding and decoration.

Waterproof mortar. The most widely used and the most common waterproof mortar on the market is actually cement mortar mixed with a waterproof agent. It is mainly used for water-proof locations such as pools, water towers, basements and liquid storage tanks, and can also be used for leak repair.

Corrosion-resistant mortar. It can be divided into the following four types: the first, acid-resistant mortar. The second, sulfur and acid resistant mortar. Third, ammonium-resistant mortar. Finally, alkali-resistant mortar.

Special mortar

Radiation-resistant mortar. There are two types:

(1) Barite mortar. Made with cement, barite powder, barite sand and water. The volume is large (2.5 tons/m3), which can block X and γrays.

(2) Boron cement mortar. It is made by adding a certain amount of boride (such as borax, boric acid, boron carbide, etc.) to the mortar, which has anti-neutron radiation performance. Commonly used ratio is lime:cement:barite powder:calcium stearate powder = 1:9:31:4 (weight), and add an appropriate amount of plasticizer.

Polymer mortar. There are the following two types:

(1) Resin mortar. It is made of synthetic resin with curing agent (such as ethylenediamine, benzenesulfonyl chloride, etc.), powder and fine aggregate. Commonly used are epoxy resin mortar, phenolic resin mortar, epoxy furan resin mortar and so on. It has good corrosion resistance, waterproof, insulation and other properties and high bonding strength, and is commonly used as an anti-corrosion surface layer.

(2) Polymer cement mortar. Add an appropriate amount of polymer adhesive (such as polyvinyl alcohol), pigment and a small amount of other additives to the cement mortar, mixed with water. Used for exterior wall decoration, it can improve the adhesion of mortar and the durability of the surface.

Insulation sound-absorbing mortar. There are mainly expanded perlite mortar and expanded vermiculite mortar. It is made of cement, lime, gypsum as a cementing material, expanded perlite sand or expanded vermiculite sand as an aggregate, mixed with water. It has the advantages of light bulk density, good thermal insulation and sound absorption effects, and is suitable for roof insulation and plastering of interior walls and pipes, etc.
